Dialed ("we", "our", or "the extension") is a browser extension that filters YouTube content to help users focus on educational and business videos. This privacy policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding your information.

Data We Collect

1. Video Metadata (Automatically Collected)

When you browse YouTube with Dialed active, we collect:

  • Video titles - The title text of videos appearing in your feed
  • Channel names - The name of the channel that uploaded each video

Purpose: This data is sent to our classification API to determine if a video is educational/business content or entertainment. This is the core functionality of the extension.

Retention: Video metadata is processed in real-time and is not stored permanently. Classification results are cached temporarily (up to 1 hour) to improve performance.

2. Account Information (When You Sign Up)

When you create a Dialed account, we collect:

  • Email address - Used for account identification and communication

Purpose: To authenticate your account and manage your subscription.

Authentication sync: You sign in on usedialed.app, and your session is securely synced to the extension via our authentication host (clerk.usedialed.app). This sync uses cookies solely for authentication — never for tracking or advertising. The extension's cookies permission is required exclusively for this session synchronization.

Retention: Account data is retained until you delete your account.

3. User Preferences (Stored Locally)

The following data is stored locally in your browser and never sent to our servers:

  • Blacklisted channels - Channels you've manually chosen to hide
  • Extension settings - Your filtering preferences

Purpose: To remember your preferences across browser sessions.

Retention: Stored until you clear browser data or uninstall the extension.

Data We Do NOT Collect

  • Browsing history outside of YouTube
  • Videos you watch or how long you watch them
  • Personal information beyond your email address
  • Payment information (handled securely by our payment processor)
  • Cookies for advertising or tracking purposes (cookies are used only for authentication sync)

How We Use Your Data

Clerk (Authentication)

  • Purpose: Secure user authentication and session synchronization between usedialed.app and the extension
  • Data shared: Email address, authentication session cookies

Modal (AI Classification)

  • Purpose: GPU-accelerated video classification
  • Data shared: Video titles and channel names (no personal data)

Railway (API Hosting)

Data Security

We implement appropriate security measures to protect your data:

  • All data transmission uses HTTPS encryption
  • Authentication tokens are never stored in browser storage accessible to other extensions
  • Our API endpoints require authentication
  • We do not store video metadata permanently

Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access: Request a copy of your personal data
  • Deletion: Delete your account and associated data
  • Opt-out: Uninstall the extension to stop all data collection
  • Blacklist control: Remove any channels from your local blacklist at any time
