1. What Dialed is, in one paragraph
Dialed renders Instagram's own mobile website inside a WKWebView and filters it for the person using it. It reads the caption Instagram has already rendered on screen, classifies it on the device with Apple's on-device model, and covers the posts the user did not ask for. Dialed hosts no content, stores no content, and transmits no content. There is no Dialed server holding anything, no upload path, no Dialed feed, and no way for one user to publish anything to another. Nothing is ever posted to Dialed.
The consequence, stated plainly: Dialed cannot remove content, because Dialed is not the host. What Dialed can do is stop showing it. We treat that as our remediation obligation, and section 5 puts a clock on it.
2. Guideline 1.2's four mechanisms, as implemented
| 1.2 requires | In Dialed |
|---|---|
| A method for filtering objectionable material from being posted to the app | Nothing is posted to Dialed; there is no authoring, upload or publishing path anywhere in the app. Filtering inbound content is the entire product: a per-post topic filter, a never-show account list, and per-surface switches. |
| A mechanism to report offensive content, and timely responses | Two routes. (a) Instagram's own ⋯ → Report on the post, one tap, on an unmodified page — see section 4. (b) support@usedialed.app for anything the filter should have caught, with the response times in section 5. |
| The ability to block abusive users | Dialed's never-show account list covers everything from a given Instagram account, on every surface, regardless of topic — enforced locally and immediately. Instagram's own Block, Restrict and Mute are also available on the page, untouched. |
| Published contact information | support@usedialed.app, published at https://usedialed.app/support.html, linked in the app and in App Store Connect's Support URL field. |
3. What is filtered by default
Mature content is filtered by Instagram, upstream of Dialed, and Dialed cannot un-filter it.
Dialed does not add a mature-content filter of its own, and the reason is that it does not sit where one would go. Dialed displays Instagram's own web pages to the account holder. Instagram's own policies and its Sensitive Content Control have already been applied to that account by the time any page reaches Dialed, and Dialed never reveals content Instagram has hidden. It has no mechanism to: there is no code path in the app that touches Instagram's sensitive-content interstitials, its content warnings or its "show anyway" controls — verified by inspection of the injected scanner on 2026-10-20. Dialed only ever hides more than Instagram does, never less.
Everything Dialed filters is therefore additive to Instagram's own moderation, and is chosen by the user. Combined with a 16+ age rating, that is the app's answer to guideline 1.2's requirement that incidental mature content from a web-based service be hidden by default: the hiding is done by the host, we do not undo it, and the audience is age-rated for the content Instagram does permit.
If Apple considers that insufficient, remediation is a configuration change, not a feature build. SensitiveFilter already ships in the binary: device-side word matching over the caption, alt text and author handle, which needs no model and therefore runs on every device, and which already sits ahead of every other rule in the classify path. Today it is reached only when a verdict is requested, which does not happen for a reader with no topics, no blocked accounts or no subscription. Making it unconditional is a small, well-understood change we can ship quickly if asked — see §5 for the timeframe.
What else is filtered, all of it user-configured:
- The topic filter the user configures at setup, in one of two modes — only show these topics, or hide these topics.
- A never-show account list and an always-show account list, both set by the user.
- The home feed and Reels can each be switched off entirely.
- Posts opened from an account page, and reels arriving in a direct message, are held until judged and covered if they fail — content the user did not choose is filtered on the same terms as content they did.
- A filtered post is covered in place, and a filtered video is paused and muted.
4. How a user reports a post
Through Instagram, because Instagram is the host. The report control is Instagram's own, on the post, one tap away: ⋯ → Report. Dialed does not touch it, move it, wrap it or replace it. The page underneath is Instagram's own page, unmodified, and the report reaches Instagram exactly as it would from a mobile browser.
This is a design guarantee, not an accident, and it is enforced by a test rather than by convention: by default the JavaScript Dialed injects into Instagram's page can read what is on screen and nothing more. No synthetic tap at any Instagram control, no click-through of its dialogs, no programmatic scrolling that would make Instagram fetch a page the user never reached. The one deliberate exception is a click on Instagram's own bottom-navigation link, so that changing tabs goes through Instagram's router instead of reloading the page. dialedappTests/ActionDriverGateTests.swift asserts this against the injected source itself, which is the only check that cannot be fooled.
Through us, for filter failures. support@usedialed.app. A user who saw something the filter should have caught tells us; we fix the filter. We say plainly that we cannot take the post down.
5. Response times and remediation
Set deliberately conservative (owner's decision, 2026-10-20) against what one person can actually keep. Apple reads these as commitments, and a missed published deadline is worse than a longer one honestly stated.
| Event | Our commitment |
|---|---|
| A user report reaches support@usedialed.app | Acknowledged within 2 business days |
| A user report is resolved, or we explain why we cannot | Within 10 business days |
| Apple reports an item to us | Acknowledged within 24 hours, and the item, the account it came from, and the pattern it represents are added to Dialed's default filters in the next release, submitted within 7 days. See the note below on why this is stated as a release rather than as a same-day filter push |
| A report alleging child sexual abuse material or non-consensual intimate imagery | Treated as the highest priority, worked immediately, reported to the authorities where the law requires, and the account added to the default never-show list |
| A pattern of reports showing a systematic filter failure | A fix in the next release, and the default filter updated ahead of it where that can be done without one |
Why remediation is stated as a release, not as a same-day push. Covering content for everyone is a change to Dialed's default category and account lists, and it needs no cooperation from Instagram — but Dialed has no remote-configuration mechanism today. The one described in CLAUDE.md §3/§10 does not exist, so a default-filter change reaches users in a build. We would rather publish the commitment we can keep — submitted within 7 days — than promise a 24-hour push we cannot deliver, and note that App Review's own turnaround then applies on top of our submission.
If remote rules are built later, this commitment gets faster and this paragraph changes with it. Any such mechanism would deliver data only — category and account lists — never executable code, which is what guideline 2.5.2 requires.
What we will not claim. We will not tell Apple, or a user, that content has been removed. It has not been. It has been covered in our app, and it remains on Instagram until Instagram removes it. If Apple needs an item taken down, the host is Instagram and we will say so — while doing everything on our side of the line in the time above.
6. Records and escalation
- Every report is logged with: the date, the route it came in by, what was alleged, what we changed, and when. Logged without storing the content itself.
- The Founder of Dialed Labs LLC owns the inbox and this plan. Dialed is a one-person company, so there is no internal escalation tier above that, and we would rather say so than name a structure that does not exist. Where a report needs expertise we do not have — a legal demand, a child-safety matter, a law-enforcement request — it is escalated outward: to the company's counsel, and to the relevant authority where the law requires it.
- We review the log monthly for patterns that indicate a systematic filter failure rather than a one-off miss.
- This plan is reviewed on each release that changes the filter, and at least monthly.
